About the Role

Qualcomm’s QT Technologies Ireland operation is looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Sensors to join its Sensors Technologies group in Cork. This is a hands-on software engineering position covering much more than conventional mobile app development.

You’ll build software that works with sensor technologies across smartphones, IoT devices, wearables and smart glasses. The work can span the full product lifecycle, from research and development through testing, validation and commercial deployment.

The role combines Android development, system-level programming, internal engineering tools and data-processing workflows. You’ll also work with engineers in different locations and contribute to sensor feature development, validation and customer-facing technical support.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and test Android applications used for sensor data collection and feature demonstrations.
  • Build desktop tools for Windows and Linux that interact with Android devices.
  • Create software for device control, data validation, visualization and post-processing.
  • Develop Java-based components using established software design patterns and development methods.
  • Work on prototype and reference platforms covering smartphones, wearables and smart-glasses devices.
  • Contribute to end-to-end sensor data-processing pipelines.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and improve data workflows used in production environments.
  • Support internal data-collection campaigns involving Qualcomm employees in different locations.
  • Investigate problems with data-collection applications running on users’ devices.
  • Help validate sensor algorithms and features using real-world data.
  • Analyse customer data and support technical triage during trials and commercial deployments.
  • Collaborate with global software, systems, integration and test teams.

Qualifications

You’ll need a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline. The position also calls for at least 2 years of software engineering or related experience.

Hands-on Android development experience is important, particularly with the Android SDK. Android Studio experience is preferred. You should also be comfortable with object-oriented programming in Java or Kotlin and be able to produce production-quality software.

The technical requirements also include C++ and Python for system-level applications and tools, plus practical Git and GitHub experience. The employer wants candidates who can build reliable demonstration and test applications, prototype quickly and communicate technical ideas clearly.

Strong written and spoken English, analytical thinking, attention to detail and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders are also required.

Licences & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering, software or computer science discipline.
  • At least 2 years of software engineering or related experience.
  • Hands-on Android SDK development experience.
  • Strong Java or Kotlin programming skills.
  • Practical C++ and Python experience.
  • Git and GitHub proficiency.
  • Ability to develop customer-facing demonstrations and test applications.

When preparing your CV, put your most relevant technical experience near the top. Highlight Android SDK projects, Java/Kotlin development, C++ or Python work, Git/GitHub, Linux or Windows tooling, sensor integration, data processing and any experience with wearables or smart devices.

If you’ve built demonstration software, internal engineering tools or applications used for testing and validation, make those projects easy to find. Concrete examples are more useful than a long list of technologies without context.
