About the Role
Cobra Motors is looking for an experienced Light Vehicle Mechanic or Automotive Technician to join its workshop in Sunshine North, Victoria. This is a practical, hands-on position for someone who can diagnose problems, complete repairs properly and manage jobs without needing constant supervision.
The workshop is a Repco-authorised service centre and works with local customers as well as fleet clients. The work covers logbook servicing, vehicle diagnostics, routine maintenance and repairs, including commercial vans.
If you have worked with Mercedes-Benz, Renault or Fiat vans, your experience will be particularly useful. The position offers steady weekday hours and a chance to work in a friendly workshop environment about 30 minutes from Melbourne CBD.
Primary Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical faults on light vehicles and commercial vans.
- Carry out vehicle servicing, maintenance and mechanical repairs.
- Complete safety inspections and identify issues requiring attention.
- Work through assigned jobs from diagnosis to completion.
- Handle work independently while maintaining workshop standards.
- Maintain accurate, high-quality workmanship on every vehicle.
- Provide good customer service and help keep fleet vehicles on the road.
Qualifications
You should be a qualified Light Vehicle Mechanic with a Certificate III in Automotive or an equivalent trade qualification. The employer is looking for someone with genuine hands-on experience rather than a beginner who still needs close supervision.
Experience working on commercial vehicles is strongly useful. Mercedes-Benz, Fiat and Renault van experience is preferred because these vehicles form part of the workshop’s work.
You should also be comfortable managing your own jobs, diagnosing faults and completing repairs to a consistently high standard.
Licences & Requirements
- Certificate III in Automotive or an equivalent Light Vehicle Mechanic qualification.
- Relevant practical experience as a light vehicle mechanic or automotive technician.
- Experience with commercial vehicles is preferred.
- Mercedes-Benz, Fiat or Renault experience is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and manage jobs through to completion.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Own tools are preferred, although a tool allowance is available.
- Strong focus on workmanship, safety and customer care.
