About the Role
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is looking for Staff Nurses to join its NE District Nursing Service in Glasgow. This is a permanent community nursing position designed for registered nurses who can deliver safe, effective and compassionate care to patients in the community.
You’ll work with patients, families, carers, care providers and other professionals to provide nursing care based on individual needs. The role gives you the chance to work with a district nursing team while developing your ability to practise with increasing independence and clinical responsibility.
The service operates throughout the year and responds to both planned and unplanned care. That means you’ll need to be comfortable prioritising patients, responding to changing needs and helping the team provide a reliable community service.
Primary Responsibilities
As a Staff Nurse, you’ll provide skilled nursing interventions to patients within the community caseload. Your day-to-day work can include assessing patient needs, planning care, carrying out agreed interventions and reviewing how well the care is working.
- Assess patients and contribute to individual programmes of care.
- Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing interventions.
- Support patients, families and carers to maintain health and independence.
- Prioritise your workload according to patient needs and service demands.
- Work under the direction of the District Nurse while using your professional judgement.
- Support colleagues and contribute to the wider district nursing team.
- Identify clinical and environmental risks and take appropriate action.
- Maintain accurate records and follow relevant nursing policies and procedures.
- Participate in clinical audit, research and service improvement activities.
- Provide care in community settings, including patients’ homes and, where required, treatment room or health-centre environments.
Qualifications
You’ll need current Part 1 NMC registration, or an accepted second-level registration with general nursing experience. The employer also expects evidence of continuing professional development and professional revalidation.
Strong communication is important because you’ll work directly with patients, relatives, carers and healthcare professionals. You should also be comfortable working independently, solving problems and contributing positively within a multidisciplinary team.
Good basic IT skills are required, including the ability to use word processing, email and internet-based systems.
Licences & Requirements
- Current NMC UK registration or qualifying registration route.
- General nursing knowledge and relevant clinical experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Evidence of professional revalidation.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Problem-solving and leadership ability.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a nursing and multidisciplinary team.
- Current driving licence is essential for the role.
- PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland checks are required.

Visa Sponsorship
This vacancy can be relevant to nurses looking for UK sponsorship, but sponsorship is not automatic. The employer states that roles are assessed for sponsorship eligibility under current Home Office requirements and that a Certificate of Sponsorship can only be issued when the relevant requirements are met.
A current NMC UK PIN is specifically required for this vacancy. If you’re an overseas-trained nurse, make sure you understand the NMC registration and UK right-to-work requirements before relying on sponsorship as part of your relocation plans.
The position also requires a current driving licence and a PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland check as part of the recruitment process.
Who This Job Suits
This role is a strong match for a registered nurse who enjoys community-based care and can work confidently with patients outside a traditional hospital environment.
You’ll particularly suit the position if you have solid clinical judgement, communicate well, manage your workload without constant supervision and enjoy working with other healthcare professionals. Experience in district or community nursing can be valuable, but the essential requirements focus on professional registration, nursing capability, communication, teamwork and the ability to work independently.
Before applying, make sure your CV clearly shows your NMC registration, nursing experience, professional development, relevant clinical skills and driving licence. If sponsorship is important to you, make your current UK work-status position clear in your application.
