Home Support Worker
Casual position with CareGivers, a Brightisle program, based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Home Support Worker jobs in St. John’s come with steady hourly pay, flexible shifts, and work that actually matters — helping people stay independent in their own homes. You don’t need a nursing degree, just a caring heart, a good work ethic, and a willingness to learn on the job.
About the Role
Brightisle runs CareGivers, a home health program that’s been active across Newfoundland and Labrador for more than 25 years. Across all its programs, Brightisle employs over 1,000 people delivering health and community care — everything from home support to residential care for kids and youth, to occupational health services.
In this role, you report to the Client Care Coordinator and work one-on-one with people who need extra help because of illness, disability, or age. You’re not just running errands — you’re the reason someone gets to stay in their own home instead of moving into a care facility.
A typical shift covers personal care like bathing, toileting, and grooming, plus housekeeping, meal prep, and grocery runs. You’ll also keep your client company: getting them to appointments, community events, or just sitting down for a good conversation. If a client needs specialized support, like Alzheimer’s or palliative care, you might handle that too, and you’ll document how they’re doing along the way.
Brightisle is upfront that this job carries real responsibility. You’ll follow the written care plan set by the Client Care Manager, watch for safety issues around lifting and transfers, and report anything that looks like a health hazard. It’s a role built on trust, and they expect you to treat it that way.
