About the Role

Optiver started in Amsterdam back in 1986 and has grown into one of the world’s leading market makers, with close to 2,000 people spread across offices in London, Chicago, Austin, New York, Sydney, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei and Mumbai. The Sydney office opened in 1996 and now acts as Optiver’s APAC head office, trading across the Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan exchanges.

This role sits inside the Critical Engineering APAC team, the group that builds and runs the infrastructure underneath Optiver’s entire trading stack. That stack prices thousands of instruments and makes millions of trading decisions every single day, all in real time. You’d own the systems underneath it, covering real-time risk controls, reference data, trade-lifecycle infrastructure and trading-integrity systems.

You’ll write production C++ for globally distributed, low-latency services, and you’ll own meaningful pieces of the platform end to end, from the first architectural decision through to production support. Optiver measures success here by whether you actually make the platform more resilient, capable or faster, not by hours logged.

  Set technical direction and make architecture calls that hold up under load

What You’ll Need

  Strong C++ skills, or Java/C# experience with a genuine drive to work in C++
• ✓
  Solid computer science fundamentals across OS, data structures, algorithms and networking
• ✓
  Practical Linux/Unix experience, plus at least one scripting language like Python
• ✓
  Five or more years building and operating production software systems
• ✓
  Full software development lifecycle experience, from requirements through to operation
• ✓
  A track record of solving hard technical problems and shipping them to real users
