Transportation Construction Inspector jobs with a clear visa path don’t turn up every day. This one’s upfront about it: JMT can’t sponsor H-1B or F-1 OPT candidates, but if you already qualify for a TN visa, you’re in the running for a hands-on inspection role across five Pennsylvania counties.

Visa note: H-1B and F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT sponsorship is not available for this role. The only exception is candidates who already hold or qualify for TN visa classification.

About the Role

JMT (Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson) is a 100% employee-owned engineering firm with more than 2,800 professionals working across the country. They currently sit at #45 on Engineering News-Record’s Top 500 Design Firms list, so this isn’t a small outfit — it’s a serious player in transportation infrastructure.

The Allentown-based Construction Management Team is hiring for multiple openings tied to PennDOT’s District 5-0 region, which covers Lehigh, Berks, Carbon, Monroe, and Schuylkill Counties. You’ll be out inspecting active construction sites, checking structural quality, safety compliance, and whether the work actually matches the plans and codes it’s supposed to follow.

Here’s the part you need to know upfront: JMT does not offer H-1B or F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT sponsorship for this role. The one exception is candidates who already qualify for TN visa classification — if that’s you, your application gets full consideration alongside everyone else.

This is a field job, not a desk job. You’ll be bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds on a regular basis, and you’ll work outside in whatever the weather throws at you — heat, cold, rain, or dry conditions included.

Primary Responsibilities

✓Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods for code and safety compliance
✓Run routine tests on concrete, soils, and other construction materials
✓Measure and verify alignment, elevation, and grade of structures and pavement against approved plans
✓Keep accurate field notes, computations, and record documentation
✓Handle other related duties as assigned on-site

Qualifications

✓Active driver’s license with a reliable vehicle (must pass JMT’s motor vehicle screening)
✓Prior highway or bridge construction inspection experience required
✓1+ years of PennDOT or PA Turnpike inspection experience preferred
✓High school diploma or GED minimum; associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering a plus
✓NICET Level II, NECEPT, or ACI Concrete Field-Testing certification preferred
