About the Role
Tasmania’s Statewide Mental Health Services is looking for Registered Nurses to join its Adult Inpatient Acute and Adult Inpatient Recovery teams. The service is expanding and improving mental health care across the state, with opportunities to work alongside doctors, allied health professionals, support workers, and other clinical staff.
Your work can involve inpatient and residential services, Hospital in the Home, community mental health, forensic services, correctional health, and other areas within the statewide program. Depending on your placement, you may support adults, older people, children and young people, or consumers receiving alcohol and drug or forensic mental health services.
You’ll provide safe, evidence-based nursing care while building appropriate therapeutic relationships with consumers. The role requires you to understand mental health and psychosocial needs, monitor treatment, work within Australian nursing standards, and contribute to continuous improvement in clinical practice.
The position is permanent and full-time, with shift work of up to 76 hours per fortnight. Hours can be negotiated with the successful applicant. The recruitment process may also be used for similar full-time, part-time, and casual vacancies for up to 12 months after publication.

Qualifications & Eligibility

Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse - ✓
Mental health qualifications and/or relevant mental health nursing experience - ✓
Ability to apply Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council competency standards - ✓
Knowledge of psychosocial and health needs in acute adult mental health - ✓
Knowledge of National Mental Health Standards and evidence-based practice - ✓
A specialist graduate or postgraduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification is desirable - ✓
A current driver’s licence is required where the role involves community-based clients
