About the Role

UNSW Business School is recruiting for two tenure-track academic positions within its School of Information Systems & Technology Management. Depending on your qualifications and experience, you may be appointed as a Lecturer at Level B or Senior Lecturer at Level C.

The positions cover Information Systems, Business Analytics and Operations Management. You’ll combine university teaching with scholarly research, professional engagement and contributions to the wider school and faculty. The Lecturer role focuses on research, teaching, engagement and academic leadership, while the Senior Lecturer role carries additional expectations around internationally recognised research and educational leadership.

The School has more than 30 staff and works across areas including business analytics, operations management, information systems strategy, enterprise systems, e-health, cloud computing, information security and digital transformation. Its research activities also cover emerging technology, business process management and technology-enabled decision making.

This is a full-time position based at the Kensington campus in Sydney. UNSW states that visa sponsorship and relocation support will be considered where required for the successful candidate.

Primary Responsibilities

Your exact responsibilities will depend on your appointment level, but the role centres on academic research, teaching and engagement. You may be expected to:

  • Conduct research: Develop and carry out scholarly research in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Operations Management or a closely related area.
  • Publish research: Produce research suitable for leading journals and conferences in information systems or operations management.
  • Teach students: Design and deliver undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses within your academic area.
  • Develop learning materials: Contribute to teaching and learning design, course development and delivery.
  • Teach technical subjects: Support courses involving areas such as AI, databases, networking or business analytics where appropriate.
  • Use educational technology: Apply relevant digital tools, online delivery methods and educational technologies to improve teaching.
  • Engage with industry: Build professional and industry connections that strengthen teaching, research and engagement.
  • Contribute to leadership: Support academic activities, school initiatives and leadership responsibilities appropriate to your appointment level.
  • Stay current: Keep up with developments, methods and emerging issues in your academic discipline.
  • Support an inclusive environment: Contribute positively to UNSW’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications

This is an academic position, so the research and education requirements are substantial. The university identifies the following qualifications and experience:

  • A PhD in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Operations Management or a closely related business field by the end of 2026.
  • A demonstrated record of research publication in leading Information Systems or Operations Management conferences and journals.
  • Experience teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience with teaching and learning design, development and delivery.
  • Experience teaching technical subjects such as AI, databases or networking is highly desirable.
  • Business Analytics teaching experience is also highly desirable.
  • Experience with UX design would be useful.
  • Experience using educational technologies and online teaching methods.
  • Experience or interest in industry engagement.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

The university will assess the appointment level based on your qualifications and experience. Senior Lecturer applicants will face additional expectations around research quality, international recognition and educational leadership.

Research & Academic Requirements

Research is a central part of this position. Applicants should be able to demonstrate meaningful scholarly work rather than relying only on classroom teaching experience.

The university specifically highlights publications in leading IS or Operations Management outlets, including examples such as the UTD24, Financial Times 50 and AIS Basket of 8. Your application should therefore make your research record easy to assess, including publications, research projects, conference activity and relevant academic contributions.

The School’s wider research interests include information systems strategy, agile and lean development, business analytics, operations management, enterprise systems, e-health, information systems security, global supply chains, business process design and digital transformation. This creates several potential areas of academic alignment for qualified applicants.

If you’re applying from outside Australia, make your academic profile particularly clear. Include your PhD status, research area, publications, teaching experience and the courses or subjects you’ve taught.

Visa Sponsorship & Relocation

UNSW states that visa sponsorship and relocation support will be considered if required for the successful candidate. This is useful for qualified international academics, but it doesn’t mean that sponsorship is automatic for every applicant.

If you’re applying from outside Australia, clearly state your current location and work-right status. You should also provide enough information for the university to assess your qualifications, PhD timeline, research record and teaching experience.

Ask the university which visa pathway would apply to your appointment, whether sponsorship is available for your specific circumstances, and what relocation assistance is included. Don’t assume that the advertised reference to sponsorship covers every immigration cost or process.

Important: The university’s current careers page shows an application closing date of 9 October 2026, while the body of the listing contains an instruction referring to 6 November 2026. Check the live application portal before submitting your application because the portal deadline should take priority.

For role-related questions, the listing identifies Amy Denney, Talent Acquisition Partner, as a recruitment contact at a.denney@unsw.edu.au. The university instructs applicants to use the application portal rather than sending applications to the contact person.
