Seniority: Vice President
Salary: Not specified in the official listing
Visa Support: Overseas applicants requiring a UK Skilled Worker visa may be considered, subject to eligibility and vacancy requirements
About the Role
Nomura is looking for a Risk Solutions Lawyer to join its EMEA Transaction Legal team in London. The position sits within the bank’s Legal function and focuses on supporting the Risk Solutions business, particularly transactions involving hedging and derivatives products.
This is a specialist legal role where you’ll work closely with front-office teams and other stakeholders from the early structuring stage through negotiation and execution. The work involves complex transactions, so Nomura is looking for someone who can understand the commercial side of a deal while identifying and managing legal risks.
You’ll also have exposure to senior legal management and opportunities to contribute to projects across the wider Legal department. The role is suited to a lawyer who enjoys technically demanding transactional work and wants to work closely with a global financial institution.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the Risk Solutions business with the structuring, negotiation and execution of transactions.
- Advise on loan-linked hedging, deal-contingent trades, novations and related hedging arrangements.
- Review and negotiate documentation connected with derivatives and structured transactions.
- Work with documents such as ISDA Master Agreements, Intercreditor Agreements and Facilities Agreements.
- Review hedging rights and obligations contained in loan and intercreditor agreements.
- Advise internal stakeholders on legal and transaction risks.
- Work with front-office teams from transaction structuring through completion.
- Support Legal department projects across EMEA and other regions.
- Help improve processes and ways of working within the Legal function.
- Manage competing priorities while keeping stakeholders informed throughout transactions.
Qualifications
You should be an English-qualified lawyer with experience in a transactional law firm or an in-house legal department. Nomura is particularly interested in candidates who have advised on derivatives and have experience executing structured transactions.
A strong understanding of derivative products and related documentation is important. You should also be comfortable analysing complex or bespoke structures and explaining legal risks clearly to business and corporate stakeholders.
Experience with finance-linked secured hedging is important, while familiarity with deal-contingent transactions is an advantage. Knowledge of leveraged finance or infrastructure financing structures can also be valuable, particularly where hedging rights and obligations form part of the underlying agreements.
Licences & Requirements
- English-qualified lawyer.
- Experience in transactional legal work, derivatives or structured transactions.
- Strong knowledge of derivative products and documentation.
- Experience analysing legal risks in complex financial transactions.
- Strong analytical and advisory abilities.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholder expectations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with front-office and corporate teams.
- Interest in improving processes and influencing positive change.

What’s on Offer
This role gives you the chance to work directly with a specialist Risk Solutions business inside a major international financial services group. You’ll handle sophisticated legal and transactional issues rather than routine legal administration.
The position also offers exposure to senior legal leadership and cross-regional projects. Because the team works from transaction structuring through execution, you can build a deeper understanding of both the legal requirements and commercial drivers behind financial transactions.
Nomura also highlights collaboration, continuous learning, professional development and inclusion within its Legal department. Lawyers are encouraged to contribute to internal projects and initiatives while developing relationships across different parts of the bank.
Visa Sponsorship & Relocation
Nomura states that it can consider applications from overseas workers outside the UK who require a Skilled Worker visa. However, the employer also makes clear that overseas employment depends on being able to establish that the position is a genuine vacancy for a qualified role.
That means visa eligibility should not be treated as automatic. If you’re applying from outside the UK, make sure your professional qualifications, legal experience and right-to-work circumstances meet the relevant requirements before making relocation plans.
For international applicants, this makes the position particularly relevant if you already have the required English legal qualification and specialist experience in derivatives, structured transactions or related financial products.
Who This Job Suits
This vacancy is best suited to an experienced transactional lawyer rather than someone looking for an entry-level legal position. Your CV should clearly show your qualification, transaction experience and exposure to derivatives or structured finance.
Highlight specific experience with documents such as ISDA Master Agreements, Facilities Agreements or Intercreditor Agreements where applicable. If you’ve worked on secured hedging, leveraged finance, infrastructure financing or deal-contingent transactions, make those examples easy to find.
You should also demonstrate that you can work directly with commercial teams, explain complicated legal issues clearly and manage several stakeholders without losing sight of deadlines.
How to Apply
Applications should be submitted through Nomura’s official careers application for this specific Risk Solutions Lawyer vacancy. Before applying, update your CV to emphasize your legal qualification, derivatives experience, structured transaction work and relevant documentation knowledge.
If you’re applying from outside the UK, make your current location and right-to-work or visa requirements clear where appropriate. The employer specifically notes that overseas applicants requiring a Skilled Worker visa can be considered subject to the conditions stated in the vacancy.
