About the Role
This is an ongoing full-time Classroom Teacher position at Broadmeadows Special Developmental School in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. The school operates across two nearby campuses, with the main campus on Dimboola Road and another campus on Sorrento Street.
The school provides specialist education programs and uses Individual Learning Plans to set and monitor student goals. Classes generally contain around 5 to 8 students, with teachers supported by Education Support Officers and, where required, team teachers.
You’ll work closely with other educators and specialists. The school has speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, literacy specialists and other support staff who contribute to student learning and development. Teachers also take part in weekly case conferences with allocated Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists.
The teaching approach places strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Programs are aligned with Victorian Curriculum requirements and evidence-based teaching practices.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver learning programs for students
- Teach groups and individual students according to their learning needs
- Develop and implement curriculum programs and Individual Learning Plans
- Monitor student progress and assess learning against individual goals
- Use student data to guide teaching strategies and provide feedback
- Work with parents, colleagues and specialist professionals
- Participate in staff meetings, parent meetings, excursions and school activities
- Contribute to school policies, programs and improvement priorities
- Maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive classroom environment
Qualifications
- Current provisional or full registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, or eligibility for registration
- Recognised teaching qualification and relevant curriculum knowledge
- Ability to teach literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to plan and deliver effective teaching programs
- Experience monitoring and assessing student learning
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Understanding of student wellbeing and inclusive education
- Commitment to working with students with intellectual disability
